Every trip abroad, counted the way the rules count it.
For people on a UK visa route to settlement or citizenship. Log your trips, see the worst rolling 12 months for ILR, and check the citizenship totals before you apply.
What to know
- For most ILR routes you can be absent for no more than 180 days in any rolling 12-month period (Gherson, ilrtracker).
- For citizenship, the usual limit is 450 days in the 5 years before you apply and 90 days in the last 12 months; on the spouse route it is 270 days in 3 years (AYJ Solicitors, Connaught Law).
- Only whole days count: the day you leave and the day you return are not counted as absences.
